The two posts that I found were Allstate Blog: Protect yourself from Identity Theft and Email Fraud and Internet Privacy and Safety Blog: Protecting yourself From Identity Theft. Both blogs discuss how using passwords with special characters to help prevent the possibility of identity theft.
The Allstate blog was more about identity theft occurring through email fraud. They then provided facts and tips of how to protect yourself which appeals to logos and plays on pathos as the reader then starts to worry about having their identity stolen. They want people to know the different types of emails that can result in email fraud and eventually a stolen identity.
The Internet, Privacy, and Safety blog discussed how having multiple passwords for different things such as email accounts and social networking sites. They also mention how cookies from different websites can be used to track the visitors of that site and pull a quote from Darrell West. This appeals to logos which later plays on the pathos of the reader as they start to worry about passwords and having websites track what they view on that site.
Both rhetorical messages conveyed in the posts are successful as they are informing the reader different ways that identity theft can occur though email fraud or by someone figuring out your password.
The Allstate blog also used references to money lost and how much was lost as well. It also provides stats in how many reported cases of fraud were recorded in 2010. It explains what to lookout for and what different types of scams can be and how to avoid them. This also continues into the realm of Logos. The Internet Privacy blog explains on how to create the different passwords and what should be used, which is your Ethos, including all the different ways that they can be used.
ReplyDeleteBoth blogs were very informative. All of the safety techniques that were suggested seem to be very obvious. Surprisingly though, people do fall for these scams and don't keep their personal accounts protected adequately. Most innocent internet users have no idea of the abilities that hackers possess.
ReplyDeleteI also feel that the blogs appeal to pathos in the viewer, especially the safety blog because as I was reading the blog it caused me to think about the passwords I use and how I do not want the website to view everything that I looked at on their site.
ReplyDeleteI agree that both blogs were very informative. But it is true that people are more prone to fall for these scams. I also agree with Jessie, not many people know how to prevent these scams from happening.
